Specific Features
-
If you are using the Acceleration addon, then you might find that P-51 has some unique features included. For example, they are capable of over-boosting beyond their typical manifold pressure limits. If you really put the P-51 through its paces for a prolonged period of time in overcharge mode, then you can cause engine damage! You will start to see smoke trails, and a decline in power when you are flying – if you don’t get repairs quickly, then you can become seriously damaged and incapable of completing your flight
-
You also get access to the Supercharger feature that is prominent within the Merlin engine used in the P-51. This is a two-speed, two-stage supercharge that shift into usage when you get between 14,500-19,500 feet above ground level, and this will increase the power incrementally as you climb through the skies. By alternating between low and high blower mode, you don’t need to worry about a thing as the plane will take care of all of the supercharge features.
-
Included in the plane are the ability to drop bombs, as well as open up the gun bays to see stunning detail of the weaponry carried by a P-51
-
Drop tanks can be installed for longer flights, and can be armed or released at any time!
-
Gun sights included to give you realistic accuracy when you are practicing the firepower of your P-51
-
Realistic landing and take-off features have been included, such as using the hydraulic T-handle to deploy the landing gear clam-shell doors.
These little features help make all the difference to help give you a real idea of just how powerful the Mustang clan of aircraft is even today. If you want to play a whole new style of FSX, then this is the place to get started.
Cockpit Features
With more than one hundred unique additions added into each model of the plane, with every little detail taken care in terms of actual usable items within the cockpit to simple addons that help complete the look & feel of the plane. You are provided with every single instance of the realistic cockpit that a pilot will step foot into, from map & data cases to flare guns easily visible when you are looking around the cockpit.
Additionally, the entire panel for operating the plane has been installed, with bespoke features added to make sure it’s the very strongest that it possibly could be. Microphone buttons, light & control switches and handles have all been included to give you maximum control over the performance and visibility of the plane. If you want to have the clearest possible view in your cockpit, then the huge selection of controls in front of you make this incredibly easy to control.
With so many different nobs, modules, fixtures and controls to get your head around every single model of the P-51 that you fly will feel like an entirely new plane. As features are stripped and added to fit the timeline of plane that you are using, it’s really easy to work through each & every model until you find one which suits your own specifications and design features.
There has been a significant attempt to try and make every single feature usable, as well. If you try and pull every lever and press every button, you will find that just about everything included has a a genuine reaction in the game. This changes depending on what model of the plane you are currently flying and how advanced it would have been at the time. Even the cockpits change drastically, with a huge amount of detail & research included into the interior of the P-51, no matter what model you are using.

Main Features
-
An incredible amount of specific detail has been undertaken on each & every model of the P-51, pushing FSX to its very limits in terms of graphical and audio performance. With unique bump texturing an FSX feature, the quality of lighting & texturing on the models included in the Mustang Tales pack make it much easier for the game to produce a resplendent and high-end representation of the planes. By utilizing every little effect and addition that you would find on a real Mustang model, you get something as close to the real thing as you can get in a simulation
-
Using more than 84 hours of unique recordings and sounds from a Packard Merlin engine, the actual sounds that you hear coming from the plane are the same you would hear in real life. Using separate sources to create a wide library of different sounds, this provides an accuracy that is hard to equal to provide the real sounds that you would hear from an actual P-51, giving you that famous growl as you parade through the skies
-
Authentic sounds for every other aspect of the plane have been included, too, with outside sounds taken from positioned microphones in mid-flight making it feel as close to the real thing as you are likely to experience. Additionally, cockpit sounds have been recorded in-flight as well, so wind noises, clanks, creaks and other typical aircraft sounds have been added in to further improve the level of realism
-
The models designed are comfortably the most authentic you will find on a computerized form, with every single detail possible included to create the perfect models. Using the original drawings and specifications of each model throughout the years, you will be getting as close to the real thing as you can without actually stepping foot in one in real life. Hours of cross-referencing for every detail, no matter how small or insignificant, has created a truly realistic representation of the P-51 models throughout history
-
Even the smallest features have been worked upon, such as the nose & wings of the plane to get the right feel & effect of every single model. Extra features like the gun bays have been taken to unprecedented lengths of detail, pushing the FSX engine to the very limit in terms of graphical strength & quality
-
Every aspect of the plane is taken into consideration, including extras like exhaust stocks, hard points and flaps are added in to make sure that the P-51 you take to the skies with in real life is as close to the one you can now fly at home on your PC
-
A huge array of unique features that only work with specific forms of the plane, and give you far more variety than the esthetics or design of the plane. With plane specifications taken into account alongside features, every aircraft feels completely different to the next so you can many hours of unique flight experience out of each and every model of the P-51 that you decide to take to the skies with
-
Every single tiny detail like screws, bolts, rivets & fasteners have been placed in exact position they would be on the real thing – if you were to compare the models found within the Mustang Tales to the real thing you would find it to be an almost identical representation!
-
The wing airfoil has been truly worked on and refined until it was exactly as it would be in real life – the accuracy in the modeling of every aspect of the wings helps lend to the authentic specifications of each plane when they are in the skies
-
Using original Inglewood drawings as a reference, plastic canopies in the Inglewood & Dallas forms have been included to provide a genuine equivalent of the plastic canopies found on each model of the P-51
-
Minor details have been forensically investigated and included, with the right paints & details on every single sector of the landing gears and gear doors right up to the wheels & tires being made to the exact scale that they would be in real life. Nothing has been left to chance or guesswork here, with every single facet of the design being a result of hours of research & editing
-
Authentic features have been included such as the T-Handle being usable, which helps to prevent the hydraulic system of the plane from being damaged. Even features such as this, that you will never truly see come into play in FSX, have been included to give Mustang pilots & enthusiasts the closest possible representation of these planes that the game will actually allow
-
Assault rifles in the form .50 cal machines have been included, with accurate models & texturing included and even included on the identical part of the plane that they would be
-
Accurate representations of everything including the pilot relief tube to the propellers on the front of the plane to give you the finest possible detail when you examine your plane
-
A huge array of custom effects is included like window scratching, dirt accumulation and lighting at both start-up and landing of the plane. This helps make it much more visible as you fly around, and also makes landing easier as you will have greater visibility of what is below you as you come down for your landing
-
A wide selection of the models also includes Payloads & Controls that can be used to drop out objects like tanks, bombs and missiles. These can be installed or removed at your own decision and include everything from large tanks to extra firepower to give you a better idea of just how much power the actual P-51 carried with it!

Visually the best WWII fighter for FSX, it's accurate down to the last rivet. It's fun and easy to fly. In this package you've got a big selection from WWII era experimental Mustangs (aircraft carrier versions) post-WWII Mustangs (the biggest part of the package) and restored Mustangs (Geraldine). So from all the Warbirdsim Mustang packages this one is probably the most diverse one. You can also get a lot of repaints for WWII era Mustangs and restored ones on sites like Sim-Outhouse, Avsim or Flightsim for this package. If you are a Warbird fan you definitely won't be disappointed by this!

I have been a Microsoft Flight Simulator enthusiast since 2003 and have bought and flown all their simulation versions. Simultaneously, my favorite WW ll fighter aircraft has always been the F-51D Mustang with all its variations. This is the best and most realistic FSX F-51D payware version I have ever flown. It is a shame that Warbirdsim only works with the F-51D Mustang, they should develop other hot fighter versions of aircraft like the F-16, F18, F-4U Corsair, Spitfire, etc. SimShack and Warbird sim, keep up the good work!

No doubt the very best the sim world has yet to offer in the ways of flight dynamics and flight physics, the mech failures oil pressures etc., its alot to consider in the meticulous and tempermental 51s, but there were prototypes that were designed that were up to par with the Mustang although it seemed that each continent had there own versions and namesakes, all were good, Id give this aircraft and its design team a 10 and SimShack for knowing its stuff. Best site for any and everything. Love that intellect with altitude.
