Now version 3.2.

The Cessna 185 Skywagon is a popular part of the Cessna Aircraft Companies history, and for over two decades served as one of their most popular models. With over 4,400 built over its lifespan from 1961-1985, the Skywagon still managed to carry a really interesting style that would appeal to many pilots today.

It was equipped with six seats and a single engine, and was used mostly for general aviation and light utility transport. It has a high-wing design with a conventional landing gear that could not be retracted, and also used a tailwheel and a landing gear to make it one of the more conventional aircraft of its era.

The Cessna 185, however, also regularly took part in bush flying as well as commercial transport of passengers of a certain wealth. It even helped to freight goods to smaller airfields that were blocked off, or even deliver to snow fields and lakes in the Alaska and Canada regions.

Therefore, the aircraft was always appreciated for its gritty and versatile nature, making it a very useful part of the general aviation circuit. Given the fact it was more or less a strengthened Cessna 180 with an improved fuselage and a larger fin on the engines. That being said, it still sold incredibly well for the time and was used as the basis for many other developments, including the Skywagon II which came later on down the line.

Unfortunately, the Cessna 185 Skywagon missed out on a chance at a rebirth. In the 1990s, Cessna brought back a lot of their old classic aircraft and reproduced them for those who wanted something a bit more retro in the hanger; the Cessna 185 Skywagon was one of the unlucky few to eventually miss out, along with the older Cessna 180.

What’s Included?

  • In this package, you gain access to four very unique paint schemes that are designed exactly on the designs used for the real thing. Although artistic license is provided in each design, the rigid features and structure of each package has been built around exactly what it should be

  • The models that are included in this package include the Float, Ski, Amphibian and Tundra designs. These models can be switched to as and when you decide to use one, and can also be combined with the extra windows door that is selectable as you fly

  • An owners supplement PDF manual as well as a quick reference manual for each of the aircraft is being provided in this package, too. This lets you get a whole lot of reading done with regards to how the aircraft works and operates, and how you can get the most out of your latest purchase

Key Features

  • Fully compatible with the 64-bit edition of X-Plane, so users of more modern systems can get full access here

  • By completely expanding the original C185 v3 package to revamp the way that it works entirely, this package manages to include various features for usage with your simulator such as a floating/amphibian equivalent that can be used on the water as well as an expanded push flight option that greatly improves the overall level of feeling that you get from the flight – these new features manage to give the whole thing a fresh and unique feeling

  • Sick of having to opt out and start afresh anytime you want to make a change to the aircraft that you are flying? With this mod, you can use fully live and on demand switching between the various versions of this aircraft which have been included. This makes switching from ski, tundra, fairings and cargo pod mode so much easier than it has been previously

  • You can also switch freshly to the float or amphibian version live and on demand with just a few clicks, this allows you to easily swap between the two as well as get access to indoor windows and cargo pods which are all easy to enable as you fly

  • Digital stereo sounds have been made from scratch to go with this aircraft, ensuring that it sounds exactly as it should. This creates all of the hallmarks of the real thing as each and every sound that is being used in here is exclusive to the real aircraft, being taken from a live usage of the real thing

  • Original instruments are included, too, so that the aircraft has all of the real features and attributes that it flies with in the real world. If realism and quality is what you need then this manages to give you both, with an attentive design style being used for each and every instrument that has been included in this

  • Brand new lighting systems are being put to perfect use in this package, as the navigational lights, beacons and landing lights provide you with far more visibility than you might be used to when using other modifications for X-plane aircraft

  • Various smaller and minor details that usually would be discounted are added in here – things like the pressure chamber, the antennas, the chocks and the pitot tube cover all provide you with the assistance that you need to really see all of the little features come alive

  • Awesome textures and paint designs that have been taken from real-life, and followed to the very letter and to the right tone. Nothing that is being used in this package is not being used in the real-world equivalent, providing you with authenticity in abundance

  • Accurately produced flight characteristics are added in here to make sure that this flies just the way that it should; using the real thing feels much like this simulated edition, capturing all of the key attributes and features perfectly

  • The weight and balance between the aircraft is measured on real-life statistics and measurements that really do follow every last detail. This manages to produce an aircraft that feels just like the real thing, and has all of the same positive and negative features as well

This time around Carenado have released an expansion pack for one of their amazing add-ons; this is the Bush Extension Pack for Carenado's C185F Skywagon V3. Like the original package, this one is available for X-Plane 10.30 or higher and is still 64-bit compatible, but requires the C185F mentioned earlier to be able to use it. If that is you then you're in luck, as this expansion more than doubles the effective use of the C185F Skywagon, which is already a great aircraft.

Four new models are included in this package, along with four new high quality liveries to choose from. All of the new models feature the same level of detail and fidelity that the base package offered, but this time you have the choice between the Float, Amphibian, Ski and Tundra variations.

The Float variant will allow you to land and take off from safely from the water, while the Amphibian variant allows you to land on both land and on the water. Or maybe you wish to utilize the Skis, which allow you to operate properly in snowy environments. The Tundra variant loses the default wheel covers in place of much bigger wheels to better prepare the aircraft for rough terrain. The best thing is that you don't need to decide which you want to use, as you can switch between them on the fly, and all of which can be combined with the opening of windows and doors.

Each of the new models will behave slightly differently, as the weight and balance of the aircraft changes as floats or skis are added, for instance. But accurately reproduced flight characteristics will ensure that your experiences both on the ground, on the water and in the air as authentic as they can be. Just for good measure, PDF reference sheets are included for each of the four models.

With all of these options now available to you, you can undertake much more challenging flights. Need to deliver cargo from a secluded snowy runway to a ship out in the ocean, no problem. The potential for adventurous flights achieved with the expansion is staggering.
