For many people, the Cessna 208 Grand Caravan is their favorite piece of aviation hardware ever. It's recognized by many users as something with a genuine bit of class about it, which is evidenced quite clearly on the fact that it's been in common use for over thirty years. Not many aircraft last this long, but the longevity and strength of this aircraft makes it much easier to understand; this was built to be sturdy and strong. In fact, the whole thing is capable of semi-long range flights with up to fourteen passengers on-board, which is pretty rare for an aircraft of this size.
The aircraft itself manages to capture the attention of so many people thanks to the changes it's had over the years. Most aircraft with three decades of life behind them don't tend to have new changes. However, in 2008, a Garmin G1000 glass cockpit was included to provide greater stability.
The aircraft itself was first launched in 1982 as a prototype, using a single-engine turboprop and a fixed landing gear. It was originally designed for utility transport and the like, but it's easy and effective style soon seen it changing tact and being used for people transport as well. The aircrafts main legacy, though, has been as a part of the FedEx family; its' regularly used by their teams across the globe thanks to its durability and its ease of flying for newer pilots.

Carenado are constantly expanding the list of available add-ons for our favorite flight simulators like Flight Simulator X and Prepar3D, this time with the impressive Cessna 208 Grand Caravan. Boasting well crafted 3D elements and beautiful HD visuals, this fantastic representation of the short haul regional airliner and utility aircraft is a worthwhile investment for pilots of any background. Offering more challenge with a Cold and Dark start option for those that want it.
The spectacular model is as detailed as they come, and the five gorgeous textures come in a variety of colors that allow you to choose one better suited to your tastes. All of them are super stylish and flow with the shape of the aircraft, making them very aesthetically pleasing. Even the included blank texture is the same size, a massive 2048 x 2048 pixels. The difference being that you can use this one to design your own liveries, allowing you to pilot an aircraft unlike any other.
Fantastic shines and reflections from both aircraft lights, like beacons and navigation lights, and environmental lights, ripple over the surface of the aircraft and create some stunning visuals. Other visual effects that make this Cessna 208 stand out, include dynamic propeller shines and a volumetric side view, as well as scratches on the windows when the light hits it at the right angle, making the cockpit experience all the more atmospheric. A customizable panel lets you change visual elements like window transparency, reflection and static elements so that you can adjust your visual experience to your liking.
Flight dynamics have been meticulously tweaked and tested by real pilots, to ensure realistic behavior compared to the real world Cessna 208 Grand Caravan. Real weight and balance is also accurate, taking into account the varying weight of the cargo pod. A dynamic sound set recorded directly from the real aircraft means you'll hear different sounds depending on varying factors; if the windows are open the sound won't be as muffled as it would be if the window was closed. This helps round out the experience as a whole and adds even more authenticity to an already phenomenal model.

A great looking plane all round, however changing liveries doesn't work for me - I end up with a "disassembled" plane sitting at the end of the runway, powering down, and no response from controllers or keyboard. The only way I can avoid this is to exit the simulator, then restart the simulator, then choose a different livery. I have lodged a support ticket with Carenado.
