Approaching Quito is a unique take on the old version of Quito Airport. The differences between new and old are quite staggering, and with this airport you will have to endure some of its notorious and nerve-wracking landings!
If you aren’t quite prepared to take on these airport landings, then you shouldn’t use this. It’s for this reason that Quito Airport is no longer in commission in this form – the airport stands right in the middle of the city itself and it was one of the most challenging in the world to land at. Today it’s gone but with this you can take a little trip back in time and to get on one of the most ridiculous, terrifying and wonderful airports that was ever built!
Using scenery that relies on imagery of the old Quito Airport, this tries to be as accurate as it can within the confines of FSX and P3D. This also ensures that the Quito Airport you get here is different to the one that one many of you may be used to in a simulator. Based on the final days of its original operations, this uses old photos to try and make an indistinguishable range of additions that make it so different from any airport you may be used to.
With really detailed terminal buildings that capture the eye and make the airport come to life in the most dramatic manner possible, Quito Airport finally stands on its own with no similar looking airport. It uses all of the authentic textures and images from the surroundings, too, with an attempt to make sure that Quito Airport continues to change and improve.
Making use of the lack of landfalls data, this fits right into the old default scenery making sure that the old slopes near the runway appear looking lifelike and clear. It’s this detail and attention to realism that makes sure that Quito Airport finally feels the way that it used to - and for the daring pilots out there, always should have!
The airport was only ever opened in 1960, and was one of the largest and busiest airports in South America. Since the year 2000, it had served as the main hub for TAM. It finally shut down in 2013 and whilst you’ll never get to visit it again in real-life, you can do so from here without any problems!
